On Tuesday and Wednesday there is another panic at work. We are supposed to deliver a model to NASA on Wednesday and we are just receiving the components to put together. My boss gives me another person to help, but how can he help the day before a delivery when he is completely unfamiliar with the model. And then, to top things off, my boss asks me to sit in all day meetings on Wednesday and Thursday. How am I supposed to work on a model if I'm sitting in all-day meetings? On Wednesday afternoon as I've finished one all-day meeting the boss catches me in my office and tells me not to go to Thursday's all-day meeting and to work on the model delivery instead. What a mess!
Needless to say I get in a heavy pull muscle group workout on Tuesday night despite sore joints. And on Wednesday when I get home I have a good run to work off stress. After a shower I help Person Ti_Ca with homework and finally get in the Moto2 race where my favorite rider starts the race in neutral (How did that happen?), drops to last place, and charges through the field to win! After the race I open up the envelope with my blood test results: Glucose levels of 91 and A1C of 5.5% Perfectly normal and hopefully now the doctor will not think I'm in a pre-diabetic state.
On Thursday and Friday we concentrate at work at getting a model sent to NASA. When I'm talking with the guy from NASA on the phone, a guy I used to work with 15 years ago, we both realize that there are 5 documents or models that control the interface and none of them match with each other. Nonetheless we deliver a model and we expect some future discussion. Thursday and Friday are heavy lifting days despite the joint pain.
Saturday starts with drizzle and so I relax around the house until noon. It looks clear enough so I get out for the ride to the pier and back. My legsa re tired the entire way but its still a good ride. In the afternoon I relax some more and then see Person Ti_Ca off when he goes out with his sister and her son and daughter to shop for a baby gift for a friend.
Sunday morning starts with drizzle so I go run for 42 minutes and hope for drier weather for cycling later in the day. After I've seent hat the Malaysian MotoGP race is delayed by a monsoon and relaxed for a bit, the weather has cleared and soon I'm out on the bicycle for a nice (shortened) ride around the aquarium. Now I am tired. I spend the rest of the day relaxing around the house and doing some minor cleaning.
On Monday somebody comes into work and says we're going to have a design review on Tuesday. I push back and say a barebones effort will barely be available on Wednesday, so they move it. And now we're busy trying to make up lost ground. When I get home I work the abdominals and lower back and help Ti_Ca with homework before he goes off to meet a friend. Tonight I go to bed at my normal time and lay awake unable to sleep for two hours.
On Tuesday I buzz through some work and eventually leave a bit early to help debug Ti_Ca's car noise. But before I leave Ti_Ca calls and says somebody in a parking lot accused him of opening his car door and banging the other guy's car. Person Ti_Ca didn't even feel anything and is skeptical. Nonetheless they exchange phone numbers and the other guy moves his car before Ti_Ca can get good pictures of a possible dent or scuff. When I get home we talk about strategies because it sounds like a scam to me since the other guy didn't give his insurance information to Ti_Ca. We just have to wait and see what te estimate for repair is before taking anti-scam action. I go out for a 35 minute walk today and I'm tired so that's the best that I can do. And then I watch the Moto3 race from Malaysia and have an 8 pm telecon with a web project.
On Friday I get out for an early morning (cold) ride to the pier and return home feeling strong. After a shower Person Ti_Ca and I go to Long Beach airport and get a flight to Oakland. From there we take AirBART to the BART station and BART to the Civic Center stop for our hotel. We check in and then go back and ride a cable car to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 for sightseeing and dinner. After dinner we ride a cable car back to Union Square and walk around before calling it a day.
Saturday starts late but Person Ti_Ca rides busses out to the Golden Gate bridge, ride on over to Fort Mason to get lunch, and then go back to the hotel to relax. Late in the evening we get ready to go to a club with Person Ti_Ca dressing as an anime character for the Halloween festivities. The music is decent at the club with no real hip hop played. The club is not as crowded as the typical clubs that we go to back in Los Angeles bt it's an okay evening nonetheless. When the club closes at 2 am there are no taxis around so we end up walking the four blocks home to the hotel.
Sunday is a lazy day but we end up meeting up with Ruby for lunch who is in town for a conference. We drive over to the Castro district and wander around and have a long lunch. Ruby has to leave so she drops us off near Union Square and we walk around the shops and fortunately avoid buying anything. We walk back to the hotel and grab dinner and then relax. I'm watching the fourth game of the world series as it goes into extra innings. Person Ti_Ca goes out to emet up with friends. The San Francisco Giants win the world series in the tenth inning and the people near the Civic Center go wild. Person Ti_Ca texts me and suggests I go participate in the celebrations so I walk over to the Civic Center and see peoplegoing wild, yelling and screaming, and stopping city busses so that many people can climb up on the roof of the bus. Eventually I go back to the hotel and now Person Ti_Ca has returned and wants to see the festivities for himself. So we both walk over to the Civic Center as things are winding down and hang out for a bit before returning to the hotel.
Monday starts at 5:30 for Person Ti_Ca as we pack up, get to the BART station, take the AirBART, and catch a flight from Oakland back to Long Beach. As we are waiting in the Oakland airport the power goes out (twice) and we are wondering if we are going to make it home or not. But the flight borads (more or less) on time and we make it home. Person Ti_Ca gets cleaned up and goes to school and I run errands, watch the Formula One race from India, watch the MotoGP race from Australia, and then work in the yard.
