Start of Summer

Monday and Tuesday are semi-productive days at work. Afterwork I split my lifting routine and get in great workouts on both nights.

Wednesday and Thursday are fairly productive days at work to make up for the bad Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday I drive over to Mom and Dad's house and ride with them to their youngest son's high school graduation. There are just over 1000 young adults graduating, so calling out their names and handing out diplomas takes 90 minutes. And then the speeches by students and school staff go rather quickly afterwards. With all of the graduates and family it is hard to hook back up with the graduate, but we do and we effortlessly get out of the parking lot and get home. The highlight of the evening was when all of the graduates were lined up in their caps and gowns on the baseball field before entering the stadium to receive their diploma. Somebody forget to turn the automatic sprinklers off on the baseball field and we see all of the graduates scrambling for dry turf as some get soaked.

Friday starts another three day weekend. I'm up early to go cycling. There are some aches and pains left over from Sunday's ride, but by mile 10 they seem to have disappeared. After the ride I grab a quick shower, go to the ATM, the mailbox, the gas station, and the carwash. The World Rally Car is now clean and ready for a coat of wax. I also do a bit of painting and trimming/watering of the roses before I head down for a nap near noon. I get in a two hour nap (Where did that come from?) before taking a claybar to the World Rally Car's surfaces to remove oxidation. And a good workout with the weights late at night gets my metabolism pumped for a night out.

I hang out at two clubs before Person E_T's text message indicates that he is back at the first club that I started at. So I walk balk over there and meet up with Person E_T after 11:30 pm. I drag Person E_T outside the club so that we can have a nice conversation and only go back inside when he's starting to get a bit chilly. There are a fair number of acquaintances present but I just hang around Person E_T and rescue him when there are unwanted advances. As the club closes Person E_T walks back to his hotel and I hang out for a while. I run into a friend of a former ice hockey teammate and hear that the ice hockey teammate of mine who is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer also is steadying his father through a lymphoma of some sorts and holding together an ex (who may or may not have given up the will to live) and is in the hospital. I fend off two good offers (Why did I do that?) and start walking back to my car at 2:25 am. On tonight's drive home the 710 southbound ramp is closed from the 105 eastbound. Thus I'm diverted to Garfield and have to take surface streets through Paramount and Long Beach to get home. The lights go out for sleep at 3:30 am on Saturday morning.

Saturday starts with a text message at 6:15 in the morning as Person M_Fl is in the neighborhood and stops by. We hang out for a while and when he has to leave to go to work I go do the laundry and some grocery shopping. After cutting up a tree branch for disposal and breaking down the old metal front porch railing for disposal, I head out on the mountain bicycle for a mid-day ride. Saturday afternoon and evening are slow - I even watch some of the US Open golf championship. I'm laughing pretty hard because there are some wild shots and high scores. Just play safe, even par golf and stay out of trouble to win. Eventually every phone gets turned off, the ear plugs go in, and I drop off to sleep. Because I've taken steps to not be disturbed I miss a text message that comes in at 12:43 am on Sunday morning.

On Sunday I get out the door for cycling near 7 am. I head down the Los Angeles river until I find a police line and a police cruiser with activities at the Anaheim underpass. Thus I have to detour onto city streets but I ride through downtown Long Beach and catch back up with the bicycle path along the ocean to catch the morning fog. It's a great ride to start the day. After a shower I sit down with vegetables, cheese, and diet Coke and work. Since I left work a bit early on Thursday I owe them some time and this is the best time to make it up. I make some good progress and hang up the work late on Sunday morning. On Sunday afternoon, after watching more of the US Open gold championship, I take a long walk and think about things that I shouldn't think about. There are a couple of moments where tears want to flow, but do not. When I get home from the walk I jump in for a quick rinse and realize that I have not used the guest bath shower since before I went to Thailand last November. The rest of Sunday is spent relaxing and eating chocolate chip cookies.

Monday is sort of productive at work though I have to sit in stupid meetings all afternoon. When I get home I walk to the grocery store and to the hardware store (for rose miticide). I have a great split session with the weights where all of the push muscles are hit.

It turns out that Tuesday and Wednesday are very good days at work. I find some ideas that could save a fair amount of money and headache on our program. When the customer agrees and realzies they are some good ideas, I just say, "Make sure and tell my boss". Tuesay has a great session with the pull muscle groups after work. I can just feel an enormous pump for the rest of the evening. Wednesday is a bicycle commute day again (finally). Both rides go very smoothly and, thus, I have two great workouts in on Wednesday.

Friday is the typical day - a semi-productive day at work, leaving slightly early to mow the lawn, and a great workout with the weights on the push muscle group. After the workout I realize that I've been at it for 10 weeks now and it's about time for a little break. There aren't really any sore joints now and the weights are within a few pounds of the maximums, but it's time for a break. Thus I plan next week's schedule accordingly.

Saturday starts early with a 40 mile bicycle ride up and over the Whittier Narrows dam to avoid the heat of the day. It's a good ride with energetic music keeping me going and coming to a crescendo just as I'm getting to the top of the dam. On the ride I see plenty of other cyclists but I also see birds, cranes, squirrels, and jackrabbits as I ride through the nature reserve. I quickly do the laundry and some grocery shopping and then squirrel myself into the house with the air conditioning running - it is hot today! A two hour nap in the middle of the afternoon helps me through the day.

Late on Saturday night I get in a great session with the weights as I hit the pull muscle group with heavy weights. I'm again close to maximum weights but just a bit shy - maybe that's why I get a great workout but don't have joint pain. After a shower I'm headed to a club in West Hollywood. I stop in at one club first because the designated club of the night doesn't have Red Bull (and instead has some nasty tasting house energy drink). I'm finally stepping into the designated club a bit before midnight. The music is very very good at this club (that I've only been to once before). I run into a few acquaintances but I keep the conversatins light - related to the hot weather, for example. Eventually I have to remove the hands from my body of a pursuer who has been giving me looks throughout the evening. And head out the door at about 2:30 om Sunday morning. The lights go out for sleep at 3:30 am on Sunday morning.

On Sunday I'm up near 7 am and out for the aquarium ride on the mountain bicycle. As I round the aquarium and head for a home a guy on a road bicycle comes to pass me (Because he has the high pressure tires and I have low pressure tires) and then slows down and rides with me. We have a nice conversation all of the way up the Los Angeles river about work, composite bicycle frames, good rides in the area, and stuff. As I pull off at Del Amo I say, "I'll bring my road bicycle and look for you next Sunday morning." I should have gotten his number to have a riding partner.

Sunday is taken up with the French Grand Prix and the MotoGP race from Donington Park in England. The results are reasonable and I'm on the edge of my seat for the MotoGP race again. For the remainder of the day I just stay inside and try to stay cool. On Sunday night I wake up in the middle of the night with a nightmare. I fall back asleep in a moderate amount of time.

On Monday I get in a final push session with the weights. It's a good thing because I'm getting worn out. On Monday night, really Tuesday morning near 2 am, I wake up with another nightmare and have a bit of trouble falling back asleep. Now why did these nightmares start again?
