On Wednesday when I leave the house for work on the bicycle, I fully expect to be returning via train because there is rain predicted for the afternoon. After I finish a semi=productive day at work the sun is still shining though it is starting to get chilly. Thus I jump on the bicycle and ride one home - getting home with 40 minutes to spare before the rain starts falling near 7 pm.
I start Friday off with the aquarium bicycle ride. I had intended today to be a long ride up and over the Whittier Narrows dam, but it was obvious by Thursday night that it wasn't going to happen. I'm overtained and tired right now. But the ride is good and proceed right into edging, mowing, and trimming the lawn. I continue errands with getting the car washed and grocery shopping before setting down for lunch with a Togos sandwich. As I'm eating lunch I realize that I haven't eaten since noon the previous day - almost 24 hours. No wonder why Thursday's weights workout was a bit taxing and I had no energy for a long morning biycle ride.
After a nap late on Saturday afternoon I feel pretty good, so I eat some chocolate chip cookies and workout. This should be the last lifting session for a week or so as I finally take some time off to let joints rest and heal. After a shower I'm headed for te usual set of clubs in West Hollywood. The usual acquaintances are present and Person T_U joins me later. We hang out together and just look around. Person T_U leaves before last call when the music finally starts to get good. Now why can't they play this music all night? After the club closes I hang out for a while to let traffic die down and then head for home. There is no construction tonight and I'm in bed reading for a few minutes just before 3 am on Saturday morning.
On Saturday I'm out the door for the aquarium bicycle ride near 7:30 am. Everything is tired and I need a break. After a shower and the laundry I find some food and watch the final qualifying the F1 race in Bahrain. I work off a few other errands and then get down for a nap near 2:30 pm.
Late on Saturday, after working the abdominals and taking a shower, I'm headed for clubs in West Hollywood. I stop in at one club to have a Red Bull (because they don't have it at the second club or charge a ridiculous price for it). I head to the second club before midnight and run into a few acquaintances. But tonight the music is just super and I spend time finding good positions for listening to music. Before I know it we are past 2 am and into afterhours, but the music keeps getting better and better. As we approach 3 am on Sunday morning I look around the still-crowded club with more people entering. I make a very slow scan of the club and realize that I am now the oldest person left in the club (by a fairly wide margin). Thus I realize it is time to go home. Near 3 am I'm walking through the deserted West Hollywood park over to the Pacific Design Center where I've parked - there appear to very few people around now. And then I rush on home to get down for sleep at some ridiculous hour on Sunday morning.
On Sunday morning I'm up near 7:30 am for the aquarium bicycle ride. And then I watch the F1 race from Bahrain and another race from St. Petersburg, Florida before working on another electrical project at home which involves shutting the power off to the entire house for safey's sake and working on the roses.
The week is a blur. It takes me Monday and Tuesday to recover from the weekend of missing sleep. I get in great workouts for the abdominals as I take the week off from heavy lifting. The bicycle commute to and from work on Wednesday is energizing as I race and try to beat traffic at various points of the rides - it's just a game to keep me enthused and continuosly surging. The week of work has me doing remedial tasks that others cannot get done.
I get in a second bicycle commute on Friday. As I get close to home I finally notice my legs getting a bit tired. But I mow the lawn and water the roses after the ride home to get those tasks out of the way for the weekend.
Late in the evening on Friday I twist Person T_U's arm to join me at a club or two in West Hollywood becauase "Next week is Long Beach Grand Prix weekend and I won't be going out." Thus I head for a couple of clubs and wander around. Some of the usual acquaintances are present such as Person J_J, Person D_X, and Person R_CT. It's a fun evening and I wait until 2:20 am on Saturday morning before I start for home. Just before leaving Brandon walks by and we have a little chat - he went with a few girlfriends to GirlBar tonight. We agree to try and hang out soon. As I'm driving down my street for home I notice somebody else has turned dwn my street and is behind me. So, ever alert that I might be followed, I pull over and let the SUV pass. Which then turns into my neighbor's driveway - it's my two neighbors who are arriving for home also at 3 am on Saturday morning. When I get out of the car I think, "What the heck is that on my lawn?" It looks like a plastic grocery bag but as I get closer I realize that it is a huge possum that is either dead or sleeping. I point it out to the neighbors and I finally say, "I'm going to go in the backdoor because I don't want to get near the possum." It is the biggest possum that I have ever seen.
When I wake up to go cycling on Saturday morning near 7 am the possum is still on my front yard - I guess it is dead. So just as I head out to go cycling I get a shovel, gently poke the possum once to make sure it is dead, say a prayer for it, and pick it up with the shovel and put it in the trash bin. It is a huge possum and is very heavy on the shovel. There appears to be no serious trauma to the possum, thus sometime between 9:30 pm on Friday night and 3:00 am on Saturday the possum decided to lay down in my front yard, take one last breath, and pass away.
Saturday is very hot, so the morning aquarium ride is good (before it gets too hot) and then I head for some skating near the ocean. It's a recreational skate today more than a workout, but I enjoy being out in the sun and in the ocean breeze. The rest of the day is pretty slow as I try to stay awake so that I get good sleep on Saturday night.
After the Sunday morning aquarium bicycle ride, Person T_U and I ride the trains to Hollywood for the Thai Songkran (or new year) festival. It is very hot and we keep looking for shade, but I enjoy the festival. I practice a few words of Thai to a guy and soon he's asking me if I speak Thai and rattling away. I have to stop him and tell him (in Thai) that I don't speak Thai. When Person T_U and I go into a Ralph's grocery store for cold water a guy stops us and says to me, "I saw you on Friday night". And pretty soon I realize that I was introduced to this guy last Friday by Person T_U's friend. But it's a fun event and we leave when Person T_U has used up his heat and sunlight environmental exposure allocation for the day.
On Monday I'm supposed to start lifting weights again, but I give it one more day. Instead I give it one more day and work abdominals. And I work on expanding the bed of carnations for another set of 4 carnation plants in the next few days.
