Im Out of Here

Tuesday and Wednesday have great weights workouts after work. Late on Tuesday Person C_T comes over and we make a video of him for a design competition. We take the video on tape, transfer it over to the computer, and edit it as necessary to get a reasonable "video resume". I'm turning out the lights for sleep well after 11 pm on Tuesday night.

On Halloween I'm just not in the mood. So after the aforementioned great workout with the weights I keep the house mostly dark and avoid trick or treaters.

Thursday is a slow day at work. I leave a bit early and mow the lawn. I lower the mower for the backyard as I cut the lawn way back for the winter months. I also manage to work the abdominals (in advance of seeing the acupuncturist on Friday). And then I get to sleep early.

Friday is a busy and a good day. Besides the loop ride (with some additional miles because of a detour) I make some financial moves, pay for more hotel rooms, see the acupuncturist (who leaves me alone with the needles in for a long, long time today), do some grocery shopping, and get a haircut. At the salon I invite people to join me clubbing tonight. I try to take a nap near 4 pm, but I can't sleep.

Late on Friday I head for clubs in West Hollywood. Eventually I meet up with Person T_U near midnight - his first time out since his dog of 4 years died. It's good to drag Person T_U out and, hopefully, he enjoyed himself. I run into Person J_J and Person D_X. Person D_X has become friendlier and friendlier since finding out that I know his longtime friend, Person D_B. I give Person D_X my phone number sometime during the evening. After closing I hang out for a while on the sidewalk in order to let traffic dissipate. Also waiting is Person Pe_V who I met earlier in the evening. Person Pe_V has friends visiting from Seattle and as we start walking to our cars I get invited to go eat Thai food. But it's 2:30 on Saturday morning and I decline and head for home - but not before giving Person Pe_V my phone number also. I race on home and lay down for a few minutes of reading at 3:08 am on Saturday morning.

It's a typical Saturday. I do the laundry, do some grocery shopping, check to see the results of qualifying for the final MotoGP race of the year from Valencia, have a community meeting with my city councilperson, and get out for the aquarium bicycle ride. I'm tired today, but I keep the pedals turning over and enjoy the ride. Late in the afternoon I get down for an hour nap before resuming reading and relaxing. I have phone calls at night with Person T_U and Person Pe_V, but decide to stay in and use the extra hour from daylight savings time for sleep.

On Sunday I get up early and go run. I've been spurred to start running by three recent re-discoveries:
1) This review of Emil Zatopek's running career. (Incuding the must-read account of his 5k gold at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinke.)
2) This video of the last lap of Emil Zatopek's 5k gold medal race.
3) This recent tragedy at the USA Olympic qualifer marathon in New York city.
Thus I get out for a 4 mile run to start my comeback to emulate Emil "the Czech Locomotive" Zatopek. After reading the newspaper and watching some football I get out for the aquarium bicycle ride near noon. It's a bright and sunny day with a bit of mist in the air and some ocean breezes. Another fantastic and fun ride! For the rest of Sunday I watch the long-awaited matchup between undefeated New England and undefeated Indianapolis. And then I watch the final motorcycle roadraces of the season from Valencia. Valentino Rossi is riding with a few broken bones in his wrist that he broke yesterday during qualifying. (So nobody should yell at me the next time that I ride my motorcycle with a fractured or broken wrist.) Unfortunately he has to abandon the race with a mechanical problem with the bike, but the races are good. And then I wind the weekend down and prepare for the upcoming week of work.

On Monday I get up and run before work. Another 4 miles on my quest to emulate the "Czech Locomotive". After work I switch from the Yamaha YZF-R1 to the World Rally Car and go hang out with Person Pe_V. We head to a coffee shop and talk about family and friends and work and life and movies and stuff. It's a good visit.

On Tuesday and Wednesday I have long days at work (to make up hours for a shorter hursday) and get in good sessions with the weights afterwards. On both days my egs are sore, so I probably look pretty funny each time I stand up out of a chair or from a stationary position.

On Thursday I go run 4 miles before work and have a semi-productve day (in meetings) at work. During the working hours I have my annual flu shot date with Lori and Trent. I leave work a bit early to go visit the dentist for a regular checkup. She finds most things normal this time. After relaxing at home for a bit I head for the ResourceScout meeting. As I'm waiting at a traffic light there's a guy walking in the crosswalk - he's in good shape, wearing a white shirt and blue sweat pants, and carrying a bottle of a sports drink or something. After the ResourceScout meeting I'm coming home and, at the very same intersection, I have to stop and yield to the same guy, wearing the same clothes, carrying a sports drink bottle, and walking in the same direction as he was 2 hous earlier. Hmmmm.

On Friday I have a frustrating day at work in teleconferences and meetings where people seemed to have forgotten everything that they've ever known. I get home and wander around the house gathering paperwork for a while before I head out for a good session with the weights. I follow this with a 35 minute walk to relieve stress. And finally, for the first Friday in a long time, I do not go out to a club. Instead I get to sleep early.

Saturday is a productive day as I run 4 more miles in the morning (The Czech Locomotive is picking up steam as each run gets a bit easier.), work on finances and paperwork, go shopping, pick up some prescription toothpaste that the dentist suggested, and then collapse down for a two hour nap just after noon. That was a great nap. I gather myself together and head for a chilly aquarium bicycle ride, take a warm shower, and then do the laundry. Saturday night is spent reading and making other preparations for the coming week.

Sunday starts out lazily with the chilly weather. But I make it out for the aquarium bicycle ride with the new winter cycling jacket. Today I don't have much strength or energy, but I just spin along and finish the ride. After the final CART race of the season from Mexico City, I watch some football, prepare for the coming week, and try to relax and stay warm. I don't want to come down with anything now as the weather changes and their are important things happening at work this week.

Before work on Tuesday I get out for another 4 mile run to get rid of nerves for my presentation. On Tuesday I give my presentation at work. I have to admit that I did very well. And others confirm it by telling me that I did very well. I also introduce the NPOESS pop-up book (to replace the NPOESS trading cards used at prior reviews).

Due to the review at work the week is a blur. I manage to sneak in some pretty good workouts with the weights when I get home (usually after 7 pm each night). I've got the "get in house door, put down helmet and riding gloves, remove work clothes, change to workout clothes, and start pumping iron" down to a three minute process now.

On Thursday I get out for another 4 mile run in the morning, pack things up, and head to work via the bus and trains. After work I take the train to Los Angeles airport and leave the country.
