Start of Autumn

Tuesday night's community meeting is not well attended. But we discuss local traffic issues, local neighborhood issues, and things affecting the quality of life in our little nieghborhood.

During the afternoon at work on Wednesday one of the secretaries tells me how tired I look. I correct her with, "It's frustration". But she insists that I am tired. Thus I let everyone know that I am taking Thursday off (to go with our regular Friday off). On Wednesday I get home after work and have a good session with the weights. And then I head off to the Library coffeehouse to read. My acquaintance, Marty, has recently quit working there. I settle in and get some reading done though I have to switch tables a time or two when a couple people "steal" my table and then we both decide we like our original tables better (because there's more light near my table and an electrical outlet near their table). Near 9:30 I'm taken by surprise as Person D_B walks in. He sees me and brings over his friend, Person B_U, and his friend, Person D_B. Thus there is no more reading done tonight as we have cool discussions about many different topics. It turns out that this is the first time that Person D_B has been at the Library coffeehouse (because he lives up in Montebello). Eventually I head on home and get the lights out for sleep a bit after 11 pm. But I have trouble sleeping - I keep thinking of the coincidence of running into Person D_B.

Thursday starts with a good loop ride of almost 30 miles. Though I'm held up at a few extra traffic lights and I have to slow down for a boat show near the Long beach convention center, my time for the ride is good. I then mow and edge the lawn and wash the Yamaha YZF-R1 before taking a shower and reloading on blood sugar. On Thursday afternoon I put a claybar to the Yamaha YZF-R1 and when it is nice and shiny I get down for an hour nap. When I wake up I have the slightest fever - a bit outside of what I would expect for a normal daily swing. Thus I cancel my attendance at the ResourceScout meeting and rest and drink extra fluids. Later I'm feeling well enough to go to a community meeting at the brand new school in Long Beach. Unfortunately the meeting turns into the police chief, another police officer, and a substation commander patting themselves on the back for a decrease in crime. I leave the meeting early.

On Friday I get out for the loop ride and though I'm feeling a bit tired towards the end, I have a faster time than Thursday. After a long conversation with Ruby I get out for some shopping and some errands.

Throughout the Friday afternoon news the weather reporters are talking about snow in the mountains. Since Sunday is the first day of autumn, the weather reporters are talking about "our summer snow".

Late on Friday, after getting in a reasonable session with the weights, I head for a club in West Hollywood. Because it is raining tonight the crowds are down at both of the clubs that I go to. But I run into Person R_V, Person J_J, Person D_B (again), and Person A_V. Person D_B asks for my phone number so that he and Person B_U and I can hang out. I mention that he already has my number, but I give it to him again. The evening is rather uneventfull but it is good to get out of the house for a while. I rush on home and get the lights turned out for sleep at 3:15 am on Saturday morning.

On Saturday morning I'm up near 7 am. I do the laundry and, because it is raining, I do not get out for a bicycle ride. Instead I interupt my day once per hour for six hours to work on abdominals and lower back. I'll be sore on Sunday and Monday from this extended duration workout. The rest of Saturday is spent reading and being restless. Person T_U calls, but we've both decided not to go out.

On Sunday I just do the aquarium ride. It's bright and sunny and there's some water flowing in the Los Angeles river. But I'm mentally uninspired by the ride today. The MotoGp race from Japan is fun as the race starts in the wet, the riders come in and change bikes as the track dries, and there are surprise winners and podium members. Valentino Rossi changing from his wet weather bike on the left to the "dry" bike (with cut slick tires as opposed to full slick tires). The championship is decided against Valentino Rossi at this moment as he finds a problem with the dry bike and he has to make an extra pit stop to get it sorted out.

On Monday and Tuesday I get in great sessions with the weights. On Tuesday I watch the 250cc race from Motegi Japan on a drying, then raining track. The action is fast and furious and my favorite rider leads for a while. While in the lead pack he runs off the track but recovers to finish 4th. And this race sees the first appearance of his brother in the 250cc race!

The rest of the week is a blur with work, good heavy workouts, some walking, and a bit of exhaustion. On Friday I leave work, mow the lawn, do some financial records, and get in a very heavy session with the weights. And then I'm off for a club or two in West Hollywood.

At the two clubs I have fun. The music is best at the first club, but I've agreed to meet up with friends at the herd/clone club. So I put up with the hip hop music and enjoy myself. Person T_U, Person J_J, Person D_B, and Person B_U are present and we hang out and have conversation. I introduce myself to Person R_CT and we have a nice conversation before heading off in our own directions. Just before the 2 am closing time I get two text messages: "Thanks for the beer. Come over to my place now." and "Thanks for the diet Coke. I hope that you had fun." I take the first offer and find myself headed for Westwood and driving along streets near UCLA. It brings back memories from 20 years ago. Person R_CT and I hang out and enjoy each other's company and conversations about film, life, relationships, and Los Angeles. Over the course of the evening (or morning) at Person R_CT's apartment I make do with a nap from 4:59 am until 5:23 am. And then I'm heading for home - arriving at 6 am in Long Beach. Well, the day has started now, so I watch the wet qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix at Mount Fuji, do the laundry, and do some grocery shopping. By now it is 9 am and I get a two hour nap - interupted by phone calls from Person T* and Person T_U. Thus I head out for the aquarium bicycle ride across the noon hour. Though I'm operating on a reduced sleep level, I try to be as tenacious as the headwind is invariant. Thus I have a good ride. The rest of Saturday is spent trying to stay awake. But the sleep on Saturday night is very very deep and good!

On Sunday, after watching the Japanese Grand Prix in miserably wet conditions, I get out for the loop ride. As I make the u-turn to get off of Pacific Coast Highway and start heading north on the San Gabriel river trail, I call out a group of ChiChi riders, "Come and ride with me". All 6 of them smile and produce giggles, but they are riding the other way. Regardless it is a good ride. After watching some football and getting some reading done, I get out for a 40 minute walk and work on the abdominals before ending the weekend.

On Monday I change up the workouts again to split bodyparts across a few days. I absolutely drill the chest and triceps on this afternoon workout before getting out for a long walk. It feels good!
