False Restart

The week is blah. I have trouble at work, I eat too much, but I get in some reasonable sessions with the weights.

Finally on Thursday, the first day of June, I decide that I need to get my life back in order. I start by improving myself from the inside by eating healthy food, eating minimal amounts of food, lifting weights regularly (as has been the case), and getting in some long evening walks. On Friday I have a productive day at work and I actually start to feel better about myself.

Saturday and Sunday are both very hot. I get out for bicycle rides on both days - on Saturday the (almost) 30 mile loop ride and on Sunday the aquarium ride. The bicycle trail near the ocean on both days is still covered in morning low clouds and fog. But get inland a bit and the temperature is blazing. On Saturday Person C_T comes over and we return some tile that was damaged, look at baseboard mouldings, and grab dinner. Then we watch a DVD that is silly and neither of us know what it means. On Sunday Person C_T does yoga while I go cycling, we share lunch, and then Person C_T goes off on his own as I watch Valentino Rossi win an epic battle at Mugello, Italy to rekindle his world championship defense hopes.

[sidenote] On Saturday as I return the tile, I expect to exchange the two boxes of broken tile for two boxes of good tile. The lady starts processing the order and says that she will refund the cost of two boxes (even though they advertise no refunds on tile). And then she gets confused and assumes that she still owes me two boxes of undamaged tile. After a while of explaining to her that she owes me either a refund for two boxes OR two replacement boxes, I can see that she doesn't undersstand and I give up the battle. Thus I get a refund for two boxes AND two replacement boxes.

On Sunday my house is (almost) empty. All of the furniture has been moved off the hardwood floors and all of the contents of closets have been removed. Everything is jammed into my bedroom (that will have new carpeting later this summer), the kitchen (which will not get remodeled until next year), and the garage. The last two things to be removed are the television (after the Mugello MotoGP race) and the computer/phone. I can't wait to see how the hardwood floors are going to look.

On Monday and Tuesday I get in good sessions with the weights, get out for long walks, and then I relax outside. There is really no place to sit down inside the house, so I pull up some old lawn chairs, turn on an exterior light, and sit back and read. It's actually cooler outside anyway.

On Wednesday I come home and deal with the floor people, do some abdominal and lower back lifting, and mow the backyard. I can't mow the front yard because of all of the tools. electrical wires, and air hoses laying on it as the floor refinishing people work until almost 10 pm. They got a bit behind earlier in the day at another site and want to catch up so that they can finish by the end of the week.

On Thursday I lift weights (heavy) before work and stay late. And ride on out to the ResourceScout meeting. Today is a split meeting between ResourceScout (a for profit corporation) and a newly formed nonprofit corporation which will allow us to be elgible for additional grant money. I get home near 10 pm and can look through the windows and see that the floors have two finish coats on them and are starting to look nice. One more coat on Friday and they should be done.

On Friday I get to work near 6:30 am so that I can leave early. When I get home I lift weights, mow the front yard, grab a quick shower, do the laundry, and stop off at the grocery store for a few supplies. And relax during the rest of the evening. I also manage to pull a cable out of the wall from the satellite dish so that I can record qualifying for the British Grand Prix.

On Saturday I just do the aquarium ride because my right knee/leg is stiff and because I'm lazy. The knee/leg warms up nicely and the ride is fun. Afterwards I watch the British Grand Prix qulifying by setting the television (and associated electronics) up in the kitchen/laundry room. Then I grab a lawn chair and sit outside the house viewing the television through the rear door. (I can't sit in the kitchen because there is no room and because it would be too close to the television for viewing.) Later Person C_T comes over and we head up to Alhambra and Pasadena to look at furniture and sofas. We grab lunch at a Brazilian restaurant and then head for home. We've missed the movie that I wanted to see and there is nothing else of interest, so Person C_T and I grab the lawn chairs and watch a DVD (viewing through the televison through the open back door). And then we head for sleep.

On Sunday I get up at a reasonable hour and get out for the aquarium ride again. After a shower it is time for the British Grand Prix. Person C_T stays for the first lap or two and then heads for a gym and other places to conitnue his day. As the race is finishing the floor refinishing people show up (on a Sunday!) to buff the floor and put the last coat on. As the race is ending the floor people are also finished. Thus they leave and I grab my skates and head for the beach. Today is just a relaxing skate as I see how the stiff knee/leg is going to respond. As I'm heading west on the bicycle/skating path I see a co-worker heading for me going east. I manage a quick "Hey Stan" to the co-worker and he just manages a "Hey" back - I don't think that he recognized who it was that was greeting him on this bright and sunny Sunday. As I drive home Person T_U calls and we have a conversation and agree to meet up at Tuesday's city council meeting in Long Beach (where they will be discussing the environmental impact report for the improved Long Beach airport facilities). After spending time trimming, cleaning, feeding, and watering the roses, I relax with a book and the television (still viewed through the back door as the floors are still wet) for the remainder of the day.
