Cold December

On Monday the weather turns cold with nighttime temperatures in the low 40's. I finally break out the winter motorcycle riding jacket (though I hope to replace it this coming weekend at the International Motorcycle Show at the Long Beach convention center). Monday is a veyr productive day at Northrop Grumman and we race through a full axis of testing on a unit. Only at the end when signatures don't exactly line up do we get held up a bit. But it's a great and productive day.

Tuesday is another productive day at work as wemake it through another axis. I've cancelled my participation at the ResourceScout meeting in anticipation of a long day at work, but we get through the testing quickly. So I go home at a normal time and wait for data to be emailed to me. While waiting I get in a high rep, lightweight session with the weights - this being the first lifting session in two weeks. I've fallen off the power curve for the running because of my right hamstring, so I'll have to rehabilitate that while I increase the weightlifting sessions. During the evening I relax and do some minor cleaning around the house.

Wednesday is a very productive day at Northrop Grumman and we finish a typially all day test by 1 pm. When I get home I lift weights - this time hitting the "pull" movements with high repetitions and low weights to start back into the swing of things. I spend the rest of the evning catching up with phone calls. And what's going on here? Person J_T calls me out of the blue. Only a friend, we hadn't spoken in about a year. This is simlar to the phone call from Person F_F from about two weeks ago. What's going on here?

On Friday morning I hear rain coming down and I lay in bed wondering how to get to work today. If I ride the motorcycle then I might get a bit wet. But I don't want to drive the car because I just waxed it last weekend and it is tucked safely away in the garage. Thus I decide to slip and slide my way to work - it has only rained a little bit so that the oil and grease is on the top of the road surface. On Friday I go home a bit early and lift weights. I'll continue with the high repetition, low weight lifting for a while because I get a good workout in a short amount of time. And hopefully it is a bit easier on the joints. Person C_T calls and he's going to hang out with Person L_M tonight. Thus I work on some Excel macros and a structural dynamics algorithm during the early evening.

On Saturday I wake up at 2:20 am, 3:15 am, and finally at 4 am and have difficulty falling back asleep. So I finally get up at 4 am and do some reading and surfing the Internet. At 5 am I go walking for about an hour and then start my day with laundry, grocery shopping, and relaxing. Near noontime I get out for a timed ride north on the Los Angeles river and enjoy the sunny but windy conditions. After trimming the roses and cleaning up the rose beds I lift weights (continuing with the high repetition, low weights for now). After 7 pm Person C_T comes by and, as people (Joe, Person J_VKPI, Tim, and Person J_T) start to cancel for tonight's club outing, we decide to stay home and watch a DVD of 11:14. It's interesting to watch and to see how the loose ends get tied up throughout the movie. And it's nice to be in bed by 10:45 pm on a Saturday night for once.

I'm up late on Sunday as I wake up and just think about things. As Person C_T gets ready for an appointment I get out for the aquarium ride. I'm a bit slow today and everyone else is on road bicycles, so a lot of people go past me. Its okay - it's still a fun ride. As I'm coming back to the house Person C_T is just leaving for his appointment. At this point I should take a shower and go down to the International Motorcycle Show at the Long Beach convention center to buy a new winter riding jacket. But I don't. I just read the newspaper and watch football games. And handle phone calls from Person M_C, Person C_T, and Joe. Joe is taking up tennis and wants me to start playing again. I refuse, for the most part, but I do show an interest in starting to play badminton if we can find a place to play.

For the rest of the day I continue reading the newspaper and I watch the Detroit Lions play (on national television). And try to figure out why I've been sinking slowly into a slightly depressed state, why I've been eating so much lately, and why I'm bored with life right now. I don't come up with any good answers. Help!

Late on Sunday I get contacted by Person A_B. Because it is late I tell Person A_B that I will call him tomorrow night. But Person A_B is now applying for political asylum from his country. It will be an interesting Monday night conversation. But here's another case where somebody that I had not heard from in a long time contacts me. What's going on here?

I read in bed until 10 pm and then flip off the lights to end this weekend.
