On Monday I drive to work. Sunday night is the coldest night of the winter season thus far. But I drive to work because a number of co-workers and myself will be going to the Los Angeles Kings ice hockey game. After work 4 of us gather and take two trains to the Staples Center. There we meet up with 4 more people to occupy a row of 8 seats for the Kings/Detroit Red Wings game. The Kings look flat and horrible the entire game and lose 5-2. And now I try to convince my co-workers to head over to the King Eddy Saloon to have a diet Coke and to hang out. But when they hear where it is, what the neighborhood is like, and what the clientele is like, they all decline. Maybe next time. Thus 4 of us grab two trains to get back to work near 11:30 pm and I'm laying down for sleep near midnight.
On Tuesday I leave work a bit early to meet up with Person C_T and a potential bathroom contractor. After the entire sales pitch and measurements are taken, the contractor gives a bid on the spot that is about a factor of 2 higher than expected. I guess he's eliminated. After a healthy dinner (prepared by Person C_T) we get out for a 40 minute walk and then do some online browsing for bathroom fixtures. Person C_T has to leave and I'm laying down for sleep near 10 pm. I am tired.
Wednesday marks the 5th morning in a row where I have not got out of bed and run. In addition to being a bit tired, maybe being a bit under the weather due to the weather change and overtraining, and being extra cautious with the right hamstring, I don't run.
On Thursday I have a good three day heroin hangover look going as I don't shave and intentionally keep messing up my hair. A co-worker that I've known for about 8 years runs into me near the bathroom and says, "What happened to you? You look like an alky!" I take this as a compliment seeing that I am trying to make the heroin hangover look work for me.
Thursday I celebrate 2 years and 11 months sober and vow to continue on. Thursday is also World AIDS Day and I make it a point to think about a few of my friends who are currently HIV positive (though they have not gone on to develop AIDS) as well as those that I knew who have died from AIDS. There isn't much else that I can do.
On Saturday I get up early to do the laundry, pick up grass and brush clippings, and trim the roses. The roses continue to bloom and provide flowers for the living room throughout the year. After relaxing and waiting for it to warm up just a bit I get out for the loop ride. I just wear a t-shirt and it is a bit chilly and blustery, but it is a good ride. And even if it is chilly, I will never complain about cold weather again (after the 40 consecutive days of fever in the midst of the hot summer from the Hepatitis B). In the middle of the Saturday sunshine I go out and wash the car and wax the car.
Both Person J_VKPI and Person T_U call and I tell them that Person C_T and I are staying in to watch DVDs and relax. Person C_T and I watch two DVDs - one called Havoc and one called...um..I forget. Havoc was pretty bad and the other was nice and kind of heart warming.
On Sunday I get up early to go for a long walk and buy the newspaper. We hang Christmas lights on the outside of the house and bring the Christmas tree in from the back porch and decorate it also. Later, as Person C_T does yoga, I get out for a sunny bicycle rode down the Los Angeles river, around the aquarium, and back up the Los Angeles river to home. After a quick shower Person C_T and I have a mediteranean lunch. When we return home we take a walk down the street to see the open house for sale. When I walk in I am a bit disoriented until I realize that the house has the same floor plan as my house bit a mirror image. It's interesting to walk through the house and see some of the original construction (that was remodeled in my house by previous owners) and some newer construction. Person C_T leaves near 3 pm as I work on some Northrop Grumman stuff.
