Clear or Not?

Monday is a strange day. I get to work very early and start working on some things. Before I know it it is almost time for lunch. And after three meetings in the afternoon it is time to go home. As I'm sitting on the motorcycle at a red light I look near my front tire and see a quarter and a penny on the street. So I put the bike in neutral, put the kickstand down, get off the bike, pull off my glove, pick up the quarter and penny, and put it in my pocket. I look up and see that the light has changed to green for us, so I quickly put my glove back on, get on the bike, pull up the kickstand, grab first gear, and go - before the car behind me gets upset. But they are probably wondering, "What the heck was that motorcycle rider doing?"

I'm a bit tired on this Monday, so instead of lifting weights I decide to do abdominal and lower back work and get out for a walk. As I'm starting in on the workout the mailman knocks at the door. He shows me an envelope from the DMV for Person N_V. It's actually a replacement driver's license for Person N_V that still has my address on it. Seeing that the mail has come with $1 postage due and I have no way of getting in touch with Person N_V, I tell the mailman to keep it. he says, "But this guy probably lost his ID and needs it". But I have no way to get hold of Person N_V (and it requires $1 for postage) so I don't accept it.

So I go back to working out after which I go for a long walk, cash in the $10 lottery ticket winner from Saturday night (and get more tickets), and stop in at the grocery store at the end of the walk. The remainder of the evening is spent working the abdominals and lower back and doing paperwork.

On Tuesday I get out for run before work according to the half marathon training plan. After a semi-productive day at Northrop Grumman I ride on home. I catch the mailman delivering the mail - the same guy as yesterday and not the regular mailman (who knows me because I give him Sprite or Coke on hot days). This guy is wearing a helmet with a light on it so that he can read the mail for delivery. he gives me my mail and leaves. About 5 minutes later there's a knock at the front door. The mailman has come back and is asking me about Person N_V and his replacement driver's license again. (Didn't he ask me about this yesterday?) I tell the mailman that it has been 18 months since Person N_V has lived here. And then the mailman says, "Oh, I guess it doesn't matter anyway. Look - this replacement driver's license is expired". I don't look at it, but it's great to get a replacement driver's license from the DMV for a lost or stolen license only to find that is is expired. Didn't the DMV notice?

The rest of Tuesday evening is spent at a ResourceScout meeting.

On Wednesday and Thursday I lift weights before work and run before work, respectively, because I have to drive to work in the rain. I don't want to leave the workout until after work when work delays and traffic delays may dampen my enthusiasm. On Thursday I leave work early to go visit the doctor. I take the doctor a box of chocolates and tell him that I'm giving them to him because he told me back in August, "Don't get discouraged - you'll get back to where you were". I kept those words in my head each time that I went to lift weights and I tell the doctor that I'm lifting as heavy as before the Hepatitis B hit me. He's surprised that I've made such good and rapid progress. The bloodwork shows that my liver enzymes are back to normal even though there's still a slightly positive test on the surface antigens. Though he cannot completely clear me now, the doctor assures me that I'm only insignigicantly contagious (if at all) and that I should keep pumping iron, running, and cycling. As I'm about to leave I mention that I fell off the motorcycle and got a lot of scrapes on various bodyparts. And when the doctor asks me when my last tetanus shot was it reminds him that I should get a Hepatitis A vaccine also. I have to admit that my last tetanus shot was at least 30 years ago, so it is the right thing to do. But I've just missed the nurse who gives both of these shots so I'll have to come back for both when I have the chance.

On Thursday I just plain relax, clear a laptop computer of sensitive data, and do trivial little errands around the house.

On Friday I continue the half marathon training, get in a quiet day at work, and leave a bit early. After a good session with the weights I do the laundry, do some grocery shopping, and relax for the evening. Phone calls with Person C_T and Person T_U get the Saturday evening clubbing event almost set.

On Saturday I get ou for the loop ride. I've wanted to ride longer each of the last few Saturdays, but it hasn't happened. It's a fairly low key day after that though I get the lawn mowed. I mow the backyard twice as I cut it farily short the second time to get it ready for the winter. I don't cut the front yard way down becasue I don't have enough room in the trash bin for the clippings - it will have to wait until next week. As I'm preparing lunch I slice a finger with a knife and for a while it won't stop bleeding. But a combination of cold water, holding my hand above my head, and direct pressure finally gets it stopped. Late in the afternoon I just relax and handle a phonecall or two regarding tonight's clubbing activities.

Person C_T and I drive up to a club in West Hollywood and meet up with Person J_VKPI, his friend, and Person T_CT. The parking attendant says to me, "I told vanessa that you miss her. She remembers you and your car". I tell the attendant that we still miss her and she should come clubbing with us. Tonight we are trying to introduce Person _PA who is a friend of a friend of Person C_T's and Person J_VKPI. Person J_VKPI wants to go to another club downt he street and meet up with his cousin, so he keeps asking, "Where is he? I want to meet him." Later when Person T_PA shows up, Person J_VKPI gets all shy and almost leaves for the other club before really talking with Person T_PA. But eventually I push Person J_VKPI over towards Person T_PA and coach him as to what to say. Before you know it the two are dancing together and getting along well. Almost too well. Later Joe and his friends arrive and finally Person T_U arrives. There are a few other acquaintances present tonight, the music is pretty good, and the crowd is reasonable - not packed like it was two weeks ago when you couldn't even move in the club. Tonight before 1 am some of my acquaintances start leaving and by 1:15 am Person C_T and I have said our goodbyes and are leaving. We arrive home at 2 am on Sunday morning.

On Sunday I get out for the morning run and buy the newspaper. While Person C_T sleeps I read the newspaper and watch some football games. Near 1pm I get out for the aquarium bicycle ride and get to do artificial surges as there's a fairly strong headwind on thw way back home. Just before dark Person C_T leaves in order to get a start on the new week as I work on two presentations to be made in the coming week at Northrop Grumman.

I'm in bed a bit after 8 pm to read for a while before the lights go off near 9pm for sleep.

Monday is a wet morning, but I ride the motorcycle anyway. It's just the heavy and dense morning fog that we sometimes get. But on the ride to work I can't see a thing (because of condensation on the outside of the motorcycle helmet shield and because of fogging on the inside of the motorcycle helmet shield). And when I get to work I am sorta wet. But everyday starting out on two wheels (either mountain bicycle, road bicycle, or motorcycle) is better than any other day!
