Los Angeles River Ride!

Tuesday is a bicycle commute and I find myself a bit tired from Sunday's 55 mile ride. Oh well, I guess this will be the last serious ride before Sunday's

On Tuesday Person C_T comes over to celebrate our 10 month anniversary (plus or minus the time that we were on trial separation). Since Pizza Hut has no discount coupons on their website and they act braindead on the telephone, we go out to a local pizza place that we've been to before. And it takes an hour to get our pizza. Person C_T manages to keep me calm, but he can see how upset that I am getting. Well, no more visits to this place. Afterwards we celebrate the anniversary as anyone would and then talk. As we are talking about food and portion control, I have a revelation and say to Person C_T, "I guess I've always had a problem with portion control whether it's related to food, drugs, alcohol, or sex." We both start laughing, but both realize it is true. Person C_T is leaving near 10:30 pm.

On Thursday I skip a second bicycle commute for the week as I let the legs rest for Sunday's long ride. I am way out of control at work on Thursday, so I try to stay in my office, be productive, and keep my mouth shut.

On Thursday I start in on a "once per hour stretch and strengthening" evening before I head out for a walk. And, why did I expect otherwise, I run into Person A_M. We have a three minute conversation about finals, Palm Springs, and Person J_VKPI. And I quickly continue on my walk. Later I put on music by the Killers (not The Kills) and re-discover my copy of "The Anarachist Cookbook" that had been missing for so long (as I move books and magazine around among rooms and throw out old stuff). The Killers song, "Somebody Told Me", has lyrics
Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year
It's not confidential
I've got potential

On Friday morning I am at work at 6:15 am. I plug away on a schedule of tasks that has to be done. Later I do slightly more fun stuff, but I'm looking forward to leaving work early with the extra hours from earlier in the week and the day. Person T* comes into my office and tells me that she is being transferred to another building to work on another project (as a result of de-staffing on this project and the need for her skills on another). I continue to say to her, "This is a good opportunity. You'll have fun on it", as she tells me where she is going. I also warn her of the disastrous traffic around her new building. I'm happy to be staying where I am.

I leave work early on Friday and lift weights, mow and edge the lawn, take a quick shower, do the laundry, and do some grocery shopping. By now it is approaching 5 pm so I pull out a chair, the latest Scientific American, and sit on the prch reading. And why did I expect otherwise, but Person A_M drives by and waves. He must be in a hurry to get to yoga class or to meet up with friends for dinner. Later in the evening Person M_Fl gets hold of me. Person M_Fl is the one that I broke the couch with. We have a nice little chat because we probably haven't spoken since last August or September.

On Saturday morning I get out for a long walk and then head to tje garage to do some abdominal/lower back strengthening and stretching. I see that the motorcycle isn't standing quite right and see that there is a nail in the rear tire. SO now, after the morning exercise and washing the car, I head over to the motorcycle dealer (after using a fix-a-flat to get the rear tire ridabel) for a fix. I see the guy who sold me the motorcycle three years ago and he has a new one with my name on it. But it's red and I tell him that it has to be Yamaha Corporate Blue like they race in.

Later in the afternoon Person C_T comes over and we 40 minutes of yoga to a video taape that he has and then we go cycling with Person T_U. It's a slow ride down around the aquarium and back, but it gets the legs moving a bit. Person C_T and I have a nive dinner and then relax for the evening.

I'm up at 5:15 am and out the door by 5:40 am on Sunday morning to do the Los Angeles River Ride. I ride up to the starting point, register for the ride, and then complete the ride. Except for the fact that I forget to take some Aleve beforehand (for neck and shoulder muscles), forget to put on sunscreen, and my sunglasses break during the ride, the ride is uneventfull and goes very smoothly. I help out a struggling cyclist or two down near Long Beach as the ocean breeze kicks up. I pull the riders along for a while until they drop off. I finish the ride a bit before 10:30 am and say my goodbyes to Person C_T as he leaves. The rest of the bright and glorious Sunday afternoon is spent relaxing from the 75 mile ride, watching the French MotoGP race, and more relaxing.
