After many, many weeks of good weight lifting sessions of increasing weights and increasing repetitions, I decide that it is time to take a week off. Though I don't have any significant joint pain or soreness right now, it's probably a good idea to give the joints a rest in anticipation of even heavier lifting shortly. Thus I declare the week a bicycle commute week.
Monday and Tuesday are good bicycle commute days though I am getting tired by the end of Tuesday at the ResourceScout meeting. But I'm enlivened by the hope that New Jersey is looking at our products an is enthused.
On Wednesday I have to ride the motorcycle to work in order to get to an afternoon dentist appointment. Thus I get out for a 4 mile run before work (with the left calf only producing a dull ache for the majority of the run). After the dentist appointment I need more stress relief, so I hit the weights. I don't go for heavy weights, rather I do sets of very high repetitions to maximize the "time under load" for each muscle while minimizing the joint stress. It's a great workout and I note that I should try it again soon.
Thursday and Friday are also bicycle commute days. On Thursday as I'm turning on to my street I see Person A_M heading for his car after finishing his day at school. I have a 1 minute conversation with him during which I notice that he looks very upset and less enthusiastic than usual. Hmmm.
On Thursday night there is a phone call between Ruby and Joseph and me to discuss a potential adoptions deal in New Jersey. We have until Saturday to put together a few charts for our contact who is currently in New Jersey. This looks like our best opportunity, but we need to convince New Jersey that our small firm can do a better job than very large software companies.
On Friday night Person C_T comes over and we have some food and watch "Faster" - a movie about MotoGP racing.
On Saturday I get out for the almost 30 mile ride before Person C_T and I run a number of errands. Later in the day I am told that I need to have a tree trimmed before I can have cables/wires run along the yard. So I'm a bit upset with myself because I knew that the tree needed trimming.
On Saturday night I lift weights as Person C_T catches up on "Dynasty" on one of the television channels' Dysfunctional Family Night. Afterwards Person C_T and I pick up Person J_VKPI and head for a club. There are a number of friends and acquaintances present that I speak with or wave to and Person C_T asks, "Who's that?" for each one. Later Person T_U joins us and the four of us hang out and enjoy the evening. A few people inside the club and outside decide that they need to put their hands on me despite me holding hands with Person C_T and Person J_VKPI as well as dragging both of them plus Person T_U around the club. (How does one drag three people around the club with only two hands?) And I realzie that this might be because I have an extra pump going from lifting weights just before heading out. Hmmm. Person T_U has his eye on someone tonight, so even at 2:25 am when Person C_T, Person J_VKPI, and I are leaving, Person T_U is still at the club. After dropping Person J_VKPI off at his house, Person C_T and I rush home to fall asleep by 3:30 am on Sunday morning.
I'm up and out the door near 7 am on Sunday morning for a long run and to buy the newspaper. I cover about 7 miles on the morning run and feel no significant difficulty with the left calf (or any other body part). I'm short on sleep, but it's a good run.
After reading the newspaper and watching the MotoGP race from Portugal, I start to panic. I'm too tired to do anything seriously productive and too restless to read anymore, watch the television, or sit around. Eventually I get out walking for about 50 minutes and take a Kava root extract near 6pm. And I'm in bed near 8pm.
On Monday I drowsily pull myself out of bed and put on clothes for the bicycle commute. Though I stayed in bed an extra 15 minutes to try and find reasons not to bicycle commute, the evidence in favor of doing it won out.
